In the ideal situation, you’d like to run a pilot workshop. Rehearsing is a good way to gain confidence and sense-check if there are any issues in the plan. If you feel nervous at the beginning of a workshop, the chances are that you didn’t spend enough time rehearsing with your team. You need a clear focus on one or the other. – Developing is putting all the things in place to be ready to execute your plan. – Planning is about creating the outline of the workshop. Both activities require you to focus on different things: There’s a reason I make a distinction between planning and developing. This will allow you to remember what happened and have other team members run similar workshops. If you think you’re going to reuse the content, I encourage you to write scripts. The Developing phase is about creating the content you will need (or sometimes, finding it, if you already have a log of content and exercises). In my experience, if you’re clear on the context and what you want to get out of the workshop, planning becomes easier. energise the team focus on an intense planning session…
You should also identify what state you want the group to be in, e.g. This is also the moment to ask yourself who should attend the session. The more people in the room the clearer you have to be.
